Canareef Resort Maldives

A 271-villa all-inclusive resort on the long Herathera island in Addu Atoll, the Maldives' southernmost atoll. Reached via domestic flight to Gan International, then a 10-minute speedboat.

The MT Verdict

A large-format Addu resort that does scale and price well. The 4.5km island gives a real sense of space, though the trade-off is the longer-than-usual transfer via domestic flight rather than seaplane.

The Villas

Canareef Resort runs 271 beach villas spread along the 4.5km Herathera shoreline — Standard Beach Villas, Sunset Beach Villas, and the larger Beach Suites. There are no overwater villas; the resort's character is land-based, palm-shaded, and set deep along the beach.

Dining

The line-up runs three main restaurants — Reef Café (international all-day), Boli Bar (overwater), and the Italian-leaning specialty venue — plus a beach bar. The all-inclusive plan covers most dining and house drinks.

Addu Atoll Setting

Addu (Seenu) is the Maldives' southernmost atoll — a different geological structure to the central atolls, with longer islands and a vast inner lagoon. The atoll's WW2 history (Britain's Royal Air Force Gan station) and Equator Village heritage are nearby.

Logistics

Transfer is a domestic flight from Velana International Airport to Gan International Airport (about 1h 15min) followed by a 10-minute speedboat. Domestic flights to Gan operate daily.
