Cathay Pacific has reopened The Wing, First, its flagship first-class lounge at Hong Kong International Airport, after roughly 11 months behind hoardings — the most extensive renovation in the lounge's history. For the millions of travellers who connect through Hong Kong, one of Asia's busiest long-haul hubs, it restores the airline's most exclusive pre-flight space.

A Familiar Look, Subtly Evolved

The redesign, again led by London studio StudioIlse, keeps what regulars loved while resetting the materials. The iconic green onyx that has long defined the space stays, now paired with walnut as the principal timber and — for the first time — granite flooring, a nod to traditional Chinese architecture.

What's Inside

At the centre sits the Atrium, a light-filled space anchored by Cathay's signature green onyx bar and a self-serve Pantry of light bites. Its menu shifts through the day, from breakfast to afternoon tea to evening bistro-style plates. For a sit-down meal, the Dining Room offers full à la carte table service spanning Asian and international classics.

Wellness gets its own wing: The Retreat brings seven private booths where eligible travellers can book a foot or neck-and-shoulder massage before boarding — borrowing a feature first introduced at The Pier, First. For those still working, The Bureau is a fully enclosed suite with acoustic panels, privacy glass, charging points and switchable "Engaged" and "Focused" lighting.

Who Can Use It

The Wing, First is reserved for Cathay's first-class passengers and its top-tier Diamond frequent flyers, in line with the airline's most exclusive lounge access.

Part of a Bigger Overhaul

The reopening is the centrepiece of Cathay's wider lounge programme, which has already delivered refreshed spaces at The Bridge in Hong Kong and a redesigned lounge in Beijing. Next, the airline will open its first dedicated lounge in New York after moving to JFK's Terminal 6, while The Wing, Business closes for its own rebuild and a 2027 reopening.

Closed for nearly a year, The Wing, First is the centrepiece of Cathay's biggest lounge overhaul in a decade.
