Italian luxury house Bvlgari will open its first Indian Ocean resort in 2026. Bvlgari Resort Ranfushi will sit on a 20-hectare island in Raa Atoll, 45 minutes by seaplane from Velana International Airport, and brings the Bvlgari Hotels & Resorts collection to nine properties globally.
The property
Ranfushi is laid out for 54 keys. The breakdown is unusual for the Maldives even at the highest end of the market: 33 beach villas with individual pools, 20 overwater villas, and one exclusive Bvlgari Villa set on its own separate private island. The architecture is by ACPV ARCHITECTS Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel, the Milan-based studio behind every Bvlgari hotel since the brand’s first London property in 2012.
The structures are low-slung and integrated into the landscape, using natural materials and open sightlines to minimise visual impact. Bvlgari has stated the resort will adhere to the brand’s sustainability standards across construction and operation.
The dining
Four signature culinary venues will operate on island:
- Il Ristorante - Niko Romito, the Italian fine-dining concept led by three-Michelin-starred chef Niko Romito, present in every Bvlgari property worldwide.
- Bao Li Xuan, the brand’s Chinese fine-dining concept.
- Hōseki, the Japanese concept.
- La Spiaggia, the relaxed beach-club restaurant.
The Bvlgari ecosystem on island
Beyond dining, the resort will house The Bvlgari Bar, The Bvlgari Spa, a Bvlgari boutique, and La Galleria. The format treats the resort island as a complete lifestyle environment rather than a hotel with one restaurant and a spa.
Why this matters for the Maldives market
Bvlgari Ranfushi joins a small but growing cluster of newer-generation luxury openings at the top end of the Maldives market, alongside Mandarin Oriental Maldives (entering pre-launch this year), Aman’s long-rumoured Maldives project, and the Bvlgari brand’s own first Indian Ocean property here rather than in Mauritius or Seychelles.
For travellers, Ranfushi is positioned at the price point above the major established brands (Four Seasons, Soneva, One&Only). Reservations are expected to open through Bvlgari’s direct channels and select luxury travel partners ahead of the formal launch.
How to get there
Raa Atoll, in the north of the country, is reachable from Velana International Airport by seaplane in approximately 45 minutes. Onward transfers will be arranged by the resort directly.
